Whitley Bomber at Knowe of Lee

We visited this site in late summer of 99 in the usual unsavoury weather conditions that can be expected when organizing these trips. The Whitley fell from the sky in 1944, the plane broke up in the air so is spread over a wide area, we only found part of one of the wings and some more wreckage which we believe to be part of the tail. We found out later that the other wing is about half a mile away from the one we found, it's about a seven mile trip in to get to the area so I don't suppose we'll go back to find it. The Mosquito listed on Site 5 is only half a mile away from the wing that we found, we visited it after the Whitley when the weather had turned rather nasty. The aircraft parts seen below were recovered by the Whitley Appreciation Society in Sept 01 in conjunction with the RAF, so don't go looking for them as you'll be disappointed!
