Gloster Meteor on Carn Sgriob

On October 6th 01 Brian Dickinson and myself having already visited the Whitley site decided to check out a lead that some aircraft parts were to be found near the summit of Carn Sgriob a smallish hill just to the North West of Grantown on Spey. A circumnavigation of the hill produced nothing, it was only when we reached the summit cairn that we came across two small fragments of what, to our eyes, can only be aircraft parts. Strange thing is that one part looked well aged, as we'd see in WW2 vintage wrecks, while the other part looked remarkably modern as in a light aircraft maybe? The newish looking piece is stainless steel while the other smaller part is aluminium. Thanks to everyone who wrote in and solved the mystery of the aircraft parts, I must say I was surprised at the response as I didn't think much people looked at the site! Mark Sheldon was first to identify the plane as a Gloster Meteor WL 336 which crashed on 20th Oct 55 with the unfortunate loss of the pilot.

Myself standing on the summit cairn, Oi! where's the plane bits!

See Bigger Picture!

Oh, there they are, Brian holds up the two suspected plane parts.

See Bigger Picture!
